In April, we started a little coffee business out of the classroom. Mrs. Gray collects orders from the HS staff and puts them in a chart. Teachers can order coffee (iced or hot), green tea, and hot chocolate. They can choose to have it delivered 1st or 5th hour on Friday. We use a Keurig to make our drinks. We also keep track of the money we spend and the money we make on a chart. There are specific jobs for students to do, and we take turns trying out each job. This is a great way for students to work on job skills including (but not limited to): collaboration, making change, fulfilling an order, and customer service.
March 2017- Muffin Project
In early February students visited Steenstra's Royal Dutch Bakery to learn about how a bakery is run. We got a behind-the-scenes tour, and some free doughnuts. Following-up our visit, we began preparing to make muffins for the high school and middle school staff. Each student chose their own muffin recipe to make, wrote a description for the muffin, and then made them. Below are some pictures of us working in the school kitchen, and a few pictures of our completed muffins!
March 2017- Grocery Shopping
A few students go grocery shopping every week for Calvin's Foods class, and for the cooking we do in our classroom every other week. Here are some pictures of our most recent shopping trip!
